Optomap Eye Exams

Appleton Optomap Eye Exams

Optomap is a cutting-edge imaging technology that allows us to capture an ultra-wide view of the retina, providing a comprehensive look at the back of your eyes. This non-invasive procedure involves a brief flash of light as the Optomap device takes a panoramic image, capturing more than 80% of your retina in one shot.

Unlike traditional methods that require dilation, Optomap offers a quick and comfortable examination, giving us an extensive view to monitor your eye health without the hassle of blurry vision or discomfort.

Learn more about optomap eye exams by calling our Appleton office at (920) 717-4299 or by using our online contact form.

The procedure begins with you placing your eye close to the machine. A low-intensity laser scans your retina, capturing detailed images in under a second. These images are instantly available for review, allowing our experienced optometrists to detect any irregularities or changes in the retinal tissue.

The Benefits of Optomap Eye Exams

  • Comprehensive retinal imaging: Optomap provides a detailed 200-degree view of the retina, far surpassing the coverage of traditional imaging methods. This extensive view allows for thorough examination and monitoring of your retina.
  • Noninvasive and comfortable: The Optomap procedure involves no contact with the eye or use of dilating drops, so patients are far less likely to experience discomfort or side effects.
  • Efficiency: With Optomap, the entire imaging process takes less than a second. This efficiency saves time during your appointment, allows us to diagnose more quickly, and facilitates quicker discussions with your optometrist.
  • Early detection: Optomap is instrumental in the early detection of serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal tears. Early detection is key to preventing vision loss and managing these conditions effectively.
  • Your health: Optomap doesn’t stop at the eyes. This technology can reveal signs of systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. By examining the blood vessels and tissues in the retina, we can identify changes linked to these health issues.
  • Suitable for all ages: Whether it’s a young child or a senior citizen, Optomap is safe and effective.
  • Better vision after the exam: Unlike dilation, which can blur your vision for hours, Optomap allows you to resume normal activities immediately after the exam. This convenience is ideal for those with busy schedules or immediate commitments.
  • Data storage: The images captured during an Optomap exam are digitally stored, facilitating easy access for future comparisons. This allows us to track changes over time, enabling more proactive management of your eye health.
  • Enhanced patient education: With Optomap, you can view the images of your own retina and gain a better understanding of your eye health. Patients often find it easier to grasp our explanations and treatment plans when they can see what our professional staff is seeing.
  • Reduced risk of cross-contamination: The Optomap exam's non-contact nature reduces the risk of cross-contamination between patients. The procedure upholds high standards of hygiene and infection control.
